The Coolest Watch In The World

Friday, May 11, 2007

Looked at various options (including Suunto) but felt this (Casio pathfinder PAW1300-1V) was the best bang for the buck in the “sports watch” category.  Ordered it on Amazon and it should be here any day now.  Can’t wait.  My wife is wondering why I need such a HUGE watch with such features.  It’s the engineer in me – I need to know the exact altitude, barometric pressure and temperature of the environment I am in at all times.  There is something indescribably cool about that.  The clincher feature ?  Definitely the fact that it is solar powered.  I’m free !

  1. Atomic Timekeeping – split second accuracy…each day the watch receives a radio signal from the atomic transmitter in Fort Collins, Colorado….that signal resets the watch to the split second (also automatically adjusts to Daylight Savings Time and Leap Year changes).
  2. Tough Solar Power – never have to change your battery again…light enters the watch through the face and dial, and hits a solar cell beneath the dial.
  3. Digital Compass
  4. Barometer – predict changing weather patterns…it takes readings every two hours and stores them automatically…graphically displays the barometric pressure for the past 26 hours…display ranges from 260 to 1,100 hPa/mb (7.65 to 32.45 inHg) with changeovers from hPa to inHg (whatever the fu*k that means).
  5. Altimeter – checks and displays the altitude every two minutes, and stores readings with the temperature every 15 minutes…graphing function positions you with respect to your target altitude, while alarm alerts you as you approach your mark…record up to 40 sets of data with each record displaying the altitude, month, date and time. The measuring range is from -700 to 10,000 meters (-2,300 to 32,800 ft.).
  6. Thermometer – displays and checks the temperature every 5 minutes…ranges are from -10 to 60ºC (14 to 140ºF).

Are you sure? The features of the watch won’t help much for your PMP exam, hahaha 🙂

BTW, the atomic timekeeping works only in the US or Japan. No such service in Singapore, AFAIK.

  2. MMM Says:

at least I can blame the result on the barometric pressure and altitude of the test site…figured the atomic time limitation…the solar feature is cool though, huh ?
