Dan Marino On The Charlie Rose Show

Sunday, June 24, 2007

The greatest pure quarterback of them all appeared on the Charlie Rose Show on Jan 1 2001.  Was very special to see him single out John Elway as the quarterback he most admired, as well as heap praise on Jimmy Johnson as a coach.  You do get the impression that he is being a bit disingenuous when he talks highly of Don Shula but otherwise this is one awesome interview (runs for the first 21m 10s)-

  1. Dr. Agony Says:

    Er–I’d beg to differ here…
    Joe Montana?
    Troy Aikman?
Phil Simms? (Ok, admittedly he may NOT be the greatest of the great, but he’s a Giant, and there HAS to be one on the list!)
    Jow Namath?
    Randall Cunningham?
Dan’s great and all, but hardly the best…although you’re right, he does get bonus points for mentioning Ol’ Bucktooth Elway.

  2. MMM Says:

No way dude…I’m talking pure passer…not circus act Randall or “almost-pornstar” Namath. Simms ?? With all due respect, he wouldn’t be on my top 10 list even….

Montana was a system quarterback – I think the real star of those 80’s 9ers teams was Bill Walsh – put Joe in any other system and he’s average…

If my life depended on a pass being completed, I’d hand it to Marino 10 times out of 10….
