Barry Sanders On The Jim Rome Show

Wednesday, June 27, 2007

I cannot recall a better example in sports where a true all time legend spent an entire career on a loser team knowing he was never going to win anything of consequence, but yet treating every game as if it was their shot at a championship.  Barry Sanders playing all 10 seasons of his legendary career with the Detroit Lions stands out in sports history in my books because of the sheer heart of a champion that Sanders put proudly on display – week in and week out.  Wayne Fontes frittered away the endless loyalty of a once-in-3-decades running back and robbed the Lions and the fans of what should have been the centerpiece of a dynasty under someone like Jimmy Johnson.  Interviewed on Apr 4 2007 on the Jim Rome show.
